The Rise of Catherine the Great review

Posted : 1 week, 4 days ago on 11 June 2018 02:35 (A review of The Rise of Catherine the Great)

Czinner, for love of women or just for love of Bergner and Catherine, depicts a peculiar matriarchad with mad or devote men. Takes too time for Catheirne to arrive to that conclusion, because the romantic plot.

Cézanne and I review

Posted : 1 week, 4 days ago on 11 June 2018 02:32 (A review of Cézanne and I)

Two kind of men, of success, of talent and that's all. More mere verbatim than dialogue mis a scene. Lacks a good ending.

Man on a String (1960) review

Posted : 2 weeks, 5 days ago on 4 June 2018 02:20 (A review of Man on a String (1960))

Too dependant on cold war clisés and idiot/odeological plots. The idea of CIA taping anything spoke in interiors with a tape recorder radar is so naif...

Au bonheur des dames (1930) review

Posted : 2 weeks, 5 days ago on 4 June 2018 02:18 (A review of Au bonheur des dames (1930))

Last silent Duvivier. Ambitious, not too maniqueist, choral in spite of Dita Parlo in the lead as the classic girl coming fron provincial innocence.

The Beautiful Swindlers review

Posted : 2 weeks, 5 days ago on 4 June 2018 02:12 (A review of The Beautiful Swindlers)

Th best sketch, maybe the Godard one in Marrakesh, is crazy and adventurous, reflecting on cinema as Seberg could help. Chabrol's is the funnier one, Polanski is relaxed, Gregoretti is horrible.

Pastoral Symphony review

How unfair has been the nouvelle vague avec Delannoy... He is excellent palhying with see/don't see moral and romantic and sexual religious dilemmas. Great Gide.

A Lady Without Passport review

Posted : 2 weeks, 5 days ago on 4 June 2018 01:08 (A review of A Lady Without Passport)

Anything with Hedy (need no acting, just a script and a director that allows her to titilate) and directed by Joseph H Lewis is worth seing. Hodiak ok and La Habana has good angles.

The Wizard of Lies (2017) review

Posted : 3 weeks, 5 days ago on 27 May 2018 03:56 (A review of The Wizard of Lies (2017))

Ok, subtle even with De Niro in a role he could take as a showcase of his latest tics. Since the beginning you try to understand him, not being philsosoficla or psychiananlitic. The tragedy and harshness of thier relatives is moving.

Hikari (2017) review

Posted : 3 weeks, 5 days ago on 27 May 2018 03:50 (A review of Hikari (2017))

Mmmhhh. Film of an idea of senses. A girl translate/explains films to blind people, an almos blind photographer among them. Love/mind affair between them.
