Bad Hair review

Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 8 August 2014 09:41 (A review of Bad Hair)

Camille Claudel 1915 review

Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 8 August 2014 09:34 (A review of Camille Claudel 1915)

As in other Dumont films, you look for the ending or the line that justifies all, and here it is when Paul Claudel replies to the doctor that says Camille is able to leave the asylum: "Tha talent has to be payed". And she is kept locked by the catholic Paul.

Hadewijch review

Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 8 August 2014 09:30 (A review of Hadewijch)

There´s no loss of time with Dumont´s natural actors. The 'nun on the forced run' is wonderful and all the film is constructed to the surprise ending of she being saved by a character presumed to become a rapist.

Twentynine Palms review

Posted : 10 years, 6 months ago on 8 August 2014 09:27 (A review of Twentynine Palms)

Sex and violence between a couple, but above all fear and loneliness of two, in Califirnia desert. Dumont despises the earth close to Hollywood while looking for locations, as the couple in the story

Moonrise review

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 31 July 2014 10:50 (A review of Moonrise)

A tiny wonderful, masterpiece. The Genius of Borzage is in details (the shadow of the detective arriving town, the kisses between Gail Russel and Dane Clark, and the best one, the chase dog kissing the hand of his chased).

The Real Glory review

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 31 July 2014 10:45 (A review of The Real Glory)

The tongue in cheek, dramatic, USA center of the universe, epic of the 30s, located in ancient wars. It wouldn't be the same after the great war. Lovable support characters (Bro Crawford and his orchids, the boy and his anti anting amulet), Andrea Leeds an excellent alternative to De Havilland.

49th Parallel review

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 26 July 2014 08:19 (A review of 49th Parallel)

The patriotic effort by Powell and Pressburger. They needed a non attacked country, as Canada, to pose dramatically the question of what makes yoy nazi and what makes you good. Thats the sense of the sequence in tne Indian day in wich people points a nazi; the disucussion about art with Howard (the boxing revenge is silly but tolerable), the speech pf hatterite Walbrook.

Tight Spot review

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 26 July 2014 08:11 (A review of Tight Spot)

In spite of the unbearable dialogues of 'she thinks she knew too much' Ginger; nice suspense, believable twist of Keith. Robinson just stays cool in each scene.

Outcast of the Islands review

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 26 July 2014 08:05 (A review of Outcast of the Islands)

One of the best Reed's. Great exploit of location, you can feel -because the monologues say so and the direction too- the greed of white man exploiting savages, the eroticism of people and landscape, the morbid thoughts, the last minute dignity. Great film.

The Key review

Posted : 10 years, 7 months ago on 26 July 2014 08:00 (A review of The Key)

I like the premise:the woman comes with the apartment and men of short life expectative, have the key. Some philosophical and melodramatic idea is caught in some scenes (the jackets, the photos, the nights before the weddings. Reed, this time, is not in the level of the film.
