Fly by Night review

Posted : 3 years, 11 months ago on 14 March 2021 04:52 (A review of Fly by Night)

(OK) Great B from quick effective, imaginative and lucky (this is a great script) Siodmak. The forced wedding and the sealed car are highlights. This in an unpretentious 'a lady vanishes'.

Night of the Kings review

Posted : 3 years, 11 months ago on 14 March 2021 04:49 (A review of Night of the Kings)

(OK) Big surprise, it has all: action, represnetation with theatrical and musical potential (or roots, I don't know), fantasy from 'a thousand and one nights' stuff, and a nation is told in the life of Zama...

Flame of My Love review

Posted : 3 years, 11 months ago on 9 March 2021 02:49 (A review of Flame of My Love)

(OK) Feminism at his anticipated cinema peak. Mizoguchi is deep in the heart of Eiko and Chiyo, radical and non verbal when Chiyo puts the place in fire; always more rational with Eiko. She looks ans observe everything and in the end you look at her, intensely

Posted : 3 years, 11 months ago on 9 March 2021 02:22 (A review of I Care a Lot)

(OK) The manipulation and unbelievable twists, without humour, become unbearable. A bad girl smiling cinically, is not enough for nothing...

La fin du monde review

Posted : 3 years, 11 months ago on 9 March 2021 02:13 (A review of La fin du monde)

(OK) Gance himself hated his film; but after the first ridicule part with Gance acting as a christlike poet; it has a sicenfe fiction futurist charm...

La fin du jour review

Posted : 3 years, 11 months ago on 7 March 2021 04:59 (A review of La fin du jour)

(OK) Great Duvivier with nostalgic actors in an asylum. Everyone as Michel Simon expalins it so good, in a spoiled child, The more spoiled, just to monstruosity is Jouvet pushing a girl to die for him as once died Victor Francenยดs woman...

The Only Son (1936) review

Posted : 3 years, 11 months ago on 7 March 2021 04:56 (A review of The Only Son (1936))

(OK) I like the melancholy of the film, the non explicit undestanding and the lies and hard truths between mother and son; but Ozu is a bit heavy and clumsy in his first nosn silent film.

The Mauritanian review

Posted : 3 years, 11 months ago on 7 March 2021 04:49 (A review of The Mauritanian)

(OK) Deliberately obscure to justify the characters doubts (making a silent and confusing victim), so you arrive to the liberation unsatisfied. Good ol Jodie...

The Son of the Sheik review

Posted : 3 years, 11 months ago on 7 March 2021 04:46 (A review of The Son of the Sheik)

(OK) Not a sequel, but a return to the them and mythical spot, more agile and funny, but a contrived and a bit confusing plot.
