(OK) Great war film of the losers: the 'retraite' of japanese army in Phillipines is a sort of zombi saga, where everybody is in the edge (sick, or depressed, or dead in life, waiting to eat his companion, wandering through life and death, looking as one skeleton to other skeleton...)

(OK) Douglas is good in strong moments, Cagney is in his sauce in them, even crying. Alcohol is men stuff, romanticism is outside of this, and as boring as Phyllis Taxter...

(OK) The characters are less interesting and achieved, than the multi meaningful relation between them. I includes showing his feelings, good for director Ree whose camera is always there.

(OK) So long saga of a torn apart family and characters, a non resolved longing for poetry, supassed by violence...

(OK) Lovely, tender and somehow hard story on those women between houswifes and whores, bout above thar culural heritage of Japan (as is said in the documentary aspect of this so neat and short but rich and complex film). Excelletns moments, purse Mizoguchi in the rigth place and distance for the action...

(OK) Hard, extreme experiment on just follow them, the not wild non guades by men animals, till one gestos on thier spirit....Theres no men but some men operated machines that alteres the idea...

(OK) Strong character in the edge (translating for UN while her family could die), so believable, so leveled with close ups and cold depictios of horror (tha massacre in the theatre 'you'll see the picture' tells the killers)...

(OK) Too manipulating, stupidly extreme, coryn, forced romantically, bullyexploitation chinese film...

(OK) As cold as the character, but then, gradually, with tha massacre as plot point, you get on her shoes; ant the reconstruction gets actuality and irony (Stalin mst be bach claims the fool woman)....

(NX) So discursive, selfconsious impossible to shut down characters, she is too intelligent till comes his turn, one of those don'tknowwhyblack&white films of the year...
