Long Day's Journey Into Night review

(NX) Nightmarish more than existencial (in spite that , in film noir tradition, wit voice in off and typical supporting characters tries to be so in the first half); long shots, some touching characters looking for tender moments (the boy in tha cave, the girl opposed to the femme fatale of the firs half, the idea of eating an apple whan being sad)...

Three Comrades review

(OK) Borzage os for love stories, so he doesn't suffer too much with tue visible mutilation of political anti nazi discourse. Sullvan is excellent, and makes believable that 3 friends love her, but one (Taylor) has to be the favourite, even she is more sincere with Tone.

The Last Train from Madrid review

(OK) Intertwinned stories in the anticipation of the all cast catastrophe films of 70s (well, it began with "Grand Hotel" in early 30s); some too corny, too political naif. Good cast, fast paced. Quinn, Roland, Lamour, Morley, good quartet. Cummings in his beginnings; Ayres too light...

The Passing of the Third Floor Back review

(OK) Good cast, nor surpassed by strange 'angel' Veidt. Too much morality when cinicism and vanity is ramping. Frank Cellir as opposed to Veidt is excellent.

Nell Gwyn review

(OK) Wilcox makes wonders with Anna, and oposing a wise Hardwicke/Charles II. The duel (all the film) between Nell and the duchess (climaxing in the huge hat gag) has a lot of charm.

Evergreen review

(OK) I understand why british cinema didn't allow Jessie to go Hollywood. Esplendid, tender and firm dancer entertainer. Sonnie Hale is sympathetic and puts the comic charm. An almost mature early musical.

The Farmer Takes a Wife review

(OK) So vivid, the Erie Chennel is more than a backgrounf is a way of life and feeling against another woay of life and feeling desired by Fonda in big debut. Gaynor is perfect, ans the resto of cast, bully but in a way noble Bickford, funny Slummerville with his tooth tool, the camel by the historic Booths, even Margarte Hamilton is not an ugly woman for once.

Sailor Beware review

(OK) Just to see James DEan in the background, with one lousy line. In the front line, Lewis and Martin routines, all the body clowning and even dancing to Jerry; not all the romance and singing to Dean. Corinne Calvett is just ornamental

Ivy review

(OK) One of the best Fontaine and Wood, too. Almost baroque, with laces, soft focus, strange close ups (witch una O'Connor regarding Ivy before mistelling her fortune); real good thriller of an ambitious woman between not 2 but 3 men. And her nemesis Cedric Hardwicke

Two Flags West review

(OK) Good copy, good Wise, great cast commandes by cool just a few words Cotten, and precocious ol captain Chandler, with a poetic ending after saying goodbye to a sleeping unrequitted love Linda Darnell. Best of all, great action, big shot photography.
