Canyon Passage review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 16 October 2013 01:50 (A review of Canyon Passage)

Somehow plain, but interesting as it depicts civilization in green Oregon, and rare cohabitation with indians till monstruos Ward Bond rapes (is suggested) an indian girl. The action is forgettable, but I like the comunity sequence building the house (big Andy Devine) while Donlevy and Susan stroll apart. Dana always cool, as if he were in a film noir.

The Texas Rangers (1936) review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 16 October 2013 01:45 (A review of The Texas Rangers (1936))

A spirited, quick, moral ambiguous, foundational lone star (Vidor is texan)western. In this pioneer spirit there are great licenses, as Jean Parker seducing Fred, bur most of all Fred and moving Jack Oakie redeeming in a few scenes. Nolan at his best.

Post Tenebras Lux review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 12 October 2013 03:41 (A review of Post Tenebras Lux)

As personal as his other films, but less agressive, more intimist and contemplative, more sharing. Pepople feel its happiness and its insatisfactiosn, children knows to name things (lovable first sequience with the girl and the animals) and to cope with the devil.

Black Sabbath review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 12 October 2013 03:38 (A review of Black Sabbath )

The european version is a must because of the metalinguistic ending, with Karloff and the rudimentary FX.The 'telephone' segment is elegant, the 'Vurdulak' has a great Karloff entrance and horror touches (the head, the kidnapped child) and the 'drop of water' is al well photographed as the others. Great cinematographer, Bava

Earthquake review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 12 October 2013 03:30 (A review of Earthquake)

Has aged a lot since I saw it in sensurround in seismic Lima. Now we know too much of siesmic prevention and effects too swallow the elevator scene and others. The miscast of Lorne Greene as Ava's father is compensated by casting of good guys Nolan, George Kennedy, Barry Sullivan. I expected more suspense around the dam.

The Great Escape review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 10 October 2013 02:39 (A review of The Great Escape)

It has aged. Heroism is above all other feelings of the POWs, and I mena homesickness, despite of war, fear of pain. I can´t stand McQueen going on and on to the 'cooler'. But Sturges is vibrant in all kinf of pieces of action, and managing a lot of stories. At least, It has not a happy ending.

The Sins of Lola Montes review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2013 10:27 (A review of The Sins of Lola Montes)

Lola is so empty and the film is so full of meaning and details; the woman is imprisoned by men, society and performing arts. Everything touched by Ophuls, and his alter ego Ustinov, turns into espectacle.

I'm So Excited! review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2013 10:19 (A review of I'm So Excited!)

La ligereza como arte, bien ubicada en la primera clase de un vuelo desde Madrid a la inseguridad. Almodóvar se divierte, se pepea, se deprime por ratos y mata el tiempo

The Hospital (1971) review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2013 10:17 (A review of The Hospital (1971))

Too sickening 70s, a clinic view of clinic life, with sharp Chayefsky dialogue. The elusive hope -neither the film, nor Dr. George C. Scott believe in it- is in shamanic mexican practices, jaja

Hemingway & Gellhorn review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2013 10:08 (A review of Hemingway & Gellhorn)

The apotheosis of evey cliché associated with Hemingway and friends, well produced and with the effective use of digitally placing rthe actors in ancient documentary footage.
