An Enemy of the People review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 5 April 2022 04:11 (A review of An Enemy of the People)

(Mu) Not so inspired, but correct, with good escapes from the theatrical home set (the assembly and its violent end is excellent), nice acting...

Moulin Rouge review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 4 April 2022 02:21 (A review of Moulin Rouge)

(Dvd) Lovable photo and set desing, and colour and fluent recreation of Touluose-lautrec style; but some heavy dialogues, too produced Ferrer's handicap, risks the enterprise. Lack of good secondary cast...

Paranoid Park review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 4 April 2022 02:18 (A review of Paranoid Park)

(Mu) A surprise. There's a natural innocence in the boy's look, a dazed and poetic and reflexive (he writes a letter) wandering; a guilty accident, with a man chopped in two (great image just once) ad subtle comments on social struggle erased in the cruves of Paranoid Park. For the police, the boys are never suspects...

The Home and the World review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 4 April 2022 02:01 (A review of The Home and the World)

(Mu) Too long dialogues, but it adds to a good end. The women reclusion is a state of mind, not just genre and politics, as the 'swadeshi' or nationalist cliam to forbid foreign products is too. There's tension and grey zones in the photography; but takes time too cathc interest. Its the time of the century, long before independence and long after british heritage...

Song hua jiang shang review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 4 April 2022 01:53 (A review of Song hua jiang shang)

(Yt) Long and irregular, but gets interesting in actions scenes, when japans arrives to the village, when the protagonists have to run, the mining accdiente, the fight; not the mining docummentary part...

The Holy Man review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 3 April 2022 12:21 (A review of The Holy Man)

(Mu) Ray in the edge of comedy and satire. The introduction of the holy man is a classic scene, with the cult and the trick, in the station, the 'babaji' giving his foot to his loyals, great. Then, the group that tries to unmask him as a political complot...

Suivez cet homme review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 3 April 2022 12:17 (A review of Suivez cet homme)

(OK) Two no connected stories, with some sordid and 'noirish' touches, specially when the girl is 'killed' twice, first almost drowned in a sac, then naked; finally strangled by his boss. Blier is a commisaire against type. Madame Olga, a good tragic character...

Michael Strogoff (1956) review

Posted : 2 years, 1 month ago on 3 April 2022 12:10 (A review of Michael Strogoff (1956))

(Dvd) Some splendour in scope (a battle, the river, etc) and good secondary characters (Sylva Koscina as a vipher, Francoise Fabian vengeful, the left and right journalists) but lacks de vibrant drama an action you find in the director of Scipione. Good Verne tale.
