Jericho review

Posted : 3 years ago on 2 May 2021 02:44 (A review of Jericho)

(OK) Strange almost episodic (the prison of diverse characters, the sabotage act, the nazis asking for takinf hostages, the liberation planned from England)ressistance film, not so focused on organized heroism, but in facts and characters, as the coward andt the 'demissionaries'...

Jenny review

Posted : 3 years ago on 2 May 2021 02:40 (A review of Jenny)

(OK) The first Carné is everything Carné, sauf a narrative disorder. Rosay is wonderful even in the end when isntead os a typical sucide, there´s an ironic remark about 'Jenny', the happy place...Barrault as Dromedaire amuses a lot

I Wish to Speak review

Posted : 3 years ago on 2 May 2021 02:37 (A review of I Wish to Speak)

(OK) Grat, each situation, perfectly mounted in a character film with social echo, is so rich: the hommage to the old communist, the wedding that has to be moved form the building, the heroine censoring something that is already approved...a tender ridicule for this disciplined obsessive woman who loses a child and, we don´ti know if the sense of it all

The Way We Were review

Posted : 3 years ago on 2 May 2021 02:31 (A review of The Way We Were)

(OK) Romantic saga, most for the theme scope (college, politica, war, media, Hollywood, maccarthism) than time and secondary characters. Delicate, sincere, unsolved...

Jason and the Argonauts review

Posted : 3 years ago on 2 May 2021 02:25 (A review of Jason and the Argonauts)

(OK) In a way is a common peplum, but Harryhausen makes a feast with the stone colossus and most of all with the eagle men; and seen from the clouds and the olympus, there´s another dimension..

Joan of Arc review

Posted : 3 years ago on 2 May 2021 02:22 (A review of Joan of Arc)

(OK) The extended version is historical enough, not to lose the glorious battle, the defetat and the agonic new triunphant attack. Bergman is always convincing most of all when she prays. Ferrer in a prick by noir standards

(OK) The silent Ozu was all he wasn't with dialogues: light hearted, camera moving, funny, a bit romantic, even gesticulting...

I Accuse review

Posted : 3 years ago on 25 April 2021 06:02 (A review of I Accuse)

(OK) Not as bad as "La fin du monde" but, after a tense good trench drama with the last night of a patrol, Gance losts in pacifist grandilocuence with Francen shouting and accusin mankind. The horror fantastic finale is quite something.
