Death by Hanging review

Posted : 3 years, 9 months ago on 5 September 2021 12:10 (A review of Death by Hanging)

(OK) Good beginning but then, becomes so selfconscious, humour forced, reiterative... Undefined point of view, not of the 'twice hanged hero' that doen't recognice himself, not of the idiotic gardian capable of killing a woman...

The Penalty review

Posted : 3 years, 9 months ago on 5 September 2021 12:06 (A review of The Penalty)

(OK) The plot becomes lousy, but is so well narrated and directed and acted by Chaney, that you forget it. Chaney climbing with his hands to see his women workers, is just great...

The Pilgrim review

Posted : 3 years, 9 months ago on 5 September 2021 12:01 (A review of The Pilgrim)

(OK) Chaplin reached maturity in the early 20's. Here you have simple gags but bitter ironic depiction of a community devoted to a false priest, himself...

El haram review

Posted : 3 years, 9 months ago on 4 September 2021 11:57 (A review of El haram)

(OK) Great and poignant argument, less melodramatic and more 'social' commentary as similar indian films. Faten Hamama lends a star touch...

Pete Kelly's Blues review

Posted : 3 years, 9 months ago on 4 September 2021 11:55 (A review of Pete Kelly's Blues)

(OK) Jack Webb holds everything, even the trumpet and the noirish aged voice in off. Very well directed, resumed in the stylized ending, good cast, what else?

Pattes blanches review

Posted : 3 years, 9 months ago on 29 August 2021 02:30 (A review of Pattes blanches)

(OK) Gremillon is great wiht a perfect story as "Le ciel est a vous" and with a harsh one as this, with characters fighting for protagonism, and becoming hosts of strange passions..., some baroquism on limpid waters as in "Lumiere d'ete"...

Patrick review

Posted : 3 years, 9 months ago on 29 August 2021 02:27 (A review of Patrick)

(OK) Simpld, unglamorous, poor cast, but that man attached to a bed, eyes wide open, telekinesia of all sorts, sensual, dangeroous, irresistible, makes the film...

Pasteur review

Posted : 3 years, 9 months ago on 29 August 2021 02:22 (A review of Pasteur)

(OK) Not a 'pasteurized' Guitiry bus a Pasteus with a Guitry humour and passion...but an ocassion for the master, just beginning his lonf feature career, visit some topics as war and scientific academic prejudice, not frecuent in his cinema
