Melodrama noir by a Mielestone commited to his material. There's a bit of real destructive passion between Heflin and Stanwyck, specially in the hill bonfire sequence. Douglas is great in his debut.

Arty, artificial, stylized in colour and dirty luminous sets, graphic solutions to end scenes, the mother is good character with punchlines, but too much corny plot points
