Pin Up Girl (1944) review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 24 July 2020 02:49 (A review of Pin Up Girl (1944))

(OK) An hommage to Grable legs, excuse to hail heroes (Guadalcanal is a glamour card of presentation) and the silliest idiot plot, of Grable impersonating Grable. A number with Hermes Pan is ok and the long militar number at the end is too much...

The Valley of Decision (1945) review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 24 July 2020 02:45 (A review of The Valley of Decision (1945))

(OK) Tay Garnett builds an epoch, carefully, solidly. Garson is convincing in her extremes. Peck is most determined, as Gladys Cooper, as overacted Barrymore, but they provide the strokes of melodrama.

Susan and God review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 24 July 2020 02:42 (A review of Susan and God)

(OK) One of the most frivolous Cukor's. Crawford is ok in that, good contrast with sometimes drunkard March. A bit stagey. John Carroll, pretty Rita, Hussey. Bigel bruce, cabot, good supporting...

Carmen review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 24 July 2020 02:40 (A review of Carmen)

Caprices review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 24 July 2020 02:37 (A review of Caprices)

(OK) A fine 'charade' resting in Danielle charm; some fun in seeing the group of actors acting a scheme for Préjean, and then other and other, and the film somwhow bites its tail...

The Cardinal (1963) review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 19 July 2020 03:27 (A review of The Cardinal (1963))

(OK) Otto is so elegant to undesrtand institutions and politics, even if it has to soften the passion of characters and action, or , in the contrary, bringing them to other meanings...

The Covered Wagon review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 19 July 2020 03:26 (A review of The Covered Wagon)

(YT) Realistic in epic, size, humour of some characters; buy the good Bannion and the bad Alan Hale are too schematic. Great tableaux of conquest of the west...

The Burglar review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 19 July 2020 03:20 (A review of The Burglar)

(OK) Oh, an isolated noir, in which Duryea seems to know everything is gonna happen, but can't cope with Jayne´s love. Good monologues; good character of Sister Sarah, findind she's been robbet from a strank viewpoint (the hole of her safe)...

The Purple Heart review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 19 July 2020 03:17 (A review of The Purple Heart)

(OK) Encouraging during war; after that, just remains elegant austere sets for a dramatizaed ritualized trial; and some elocunet moments by the tortured (you don'd see the tortures) americans...I miss the pacifist Milestone of "Allquiet on the western front"...

Wings of the Morning review

Posted : 4 years, 7 months ago on 18 July 2020 12:42 (A review of Wings of the Morning)

(OK) The only interes is the early technicolor and charm pair of Annabella and Fonda. Her travestism is stupid. One idea: the old gypsy fighting to be alive while her horse competes...
