The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit review

Posted : 6 years, 2 months ago on 13 March 2019 01:29 (A review of The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit)

Fine long piece of what Hollywood and all its constraints could made in 1956 with a not amazing material: an ordinary man facing quietly extraordinary problems as an abandoned child in Italy and an almost lost legacy...

When a Woman Ascends the Stairs (1960) review

Posted : 6 years, 2 months ago on 13 March 2019 01:25 (A review of When a Woman Ascends the Stairs (1960))

Naruse is somehow between Ozu and any other greta japanese. Love the challenge of putting in every woman's foot, even the sympathy goes for the non wife. The choir of characters that forces her is well handled

When Ladies Meet review

Posted : 6 years, 2 months ago on 10 March 2019 04:25 (A review of When Ladies Meet)

Nice play, nice cast, nice Beaumont directing; tender touches mainly not in the Harding-Loy meeting, but in Brady's celebrating Loy is as fool as she and that's why they're friends.

Die goldene Stadt review

Posted : 6 years, 2 months ago on 10 March 2019 04:19 (A review of Die goldene Stadt)

Hard and direct director Harlan when he has to. And a bit of rural urban inspired poetry when charming Soderbaum plays with the river on her feet, knowing the water goes to golden Prague.

Time Limit review

Posted : 6 years, 2 months ago on 10 March 2019 04:16 (A review of Time Limit)

Too stagey, too wordy; it suffer's form grandiloquent character's speeches even when they are breaking. Widmarl modulates the proceedings, but Basehart and Benton Reid are a bit too histrionic...

The Other Side of the Wind review

Posted : 6 years, 2 months ago on 4 March 2019 02:38 (A review of The Other Side of the Wind)

Uneasy to pooint ist virtues, I'm sure editing suffers of putting too much of whatยดs bieng found, in compilators fear of losing something...Sarcasm covers everything woth relativism, kind of plain..bust there are pretty sharp remarks as Bogdanovich when he say thar the beaten critic "will survive..to write about this". The sexual sordid naif elusive dialogues with the professor and everything regarding Dale (Pocahontas is a solid sex activ object with firearms and everything) is a piece of study...

The respect of historical facts and investigation aminorates risl of romatic corny distortions. Victoria is wrong and weak sometimes, and credible right and stubborn in others...

Realist kind approach to the 'adult' themes of Mary's husband homosexuality, great Saoirse's close ups with greater hairstyles, .....
