Norman review

Posted : 7 years, 5 months ago on 3 September 2017 09:55 (A review of Norman)

The character is better than the film, it looses too much inexplaining a lot of roundaabouts, instead of stretching the story and intensifying its best moments.

Mayerling (1968) review

Posted : 7 years, 5 months ago on 3 September 2017 09:53 (A review of Mayerling (1968))

More than I expected. There's elegance, sense of decadence being constraint, romanticism build up with some subtlety in expense of the political background, perverse undertones (incestuous guilt between Ava and Sharif), and some fantasy in the ballet as seen by Deneuve and Sharif.

The Zookeeper's Wife review

Posted : 7 years, 5 months ago on 3 September 2017 09:48 (A review of The Zookeeper's Wife)

Corny to say the least. Chastain acts as shw wants to, adding a whimsical sexy/froid look that makes me laugh sometimes. A washed up great war drama with too shy animals.

Scaramouche review

Posted : 7 years, 6 months ago on 7 August 2017 04:27 (A review of Scaramouche)

I love this so much, this is Les enfants du paradis (Granger and parker are actors, remember) meets MGM's Hollywood, with a grand chorepgraphic finale. Yes, an unexpected masterpiece by George Sidney and by a big studio.

The Purple Mask review

Posted : 7 years, 6 months ago on 7 August 2017 04:24 (A review of The Purple Mask)

Modest charm, light french antirevolutionary story (noblemen and thier descendants as Curtis and Miller are heroes against polices that seems monarchic)...

The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean review

Posted : 7 years, 6 months ago on 7 August 2017 12:32 (A review of The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean)

Huston's western balad. Lily Langtry is poetry for Judge and we undesrstand it as we see Ava. The non extreme violent elegant mexican friendly Huston is at his best.

The Assassination of Trotsky review

Posted : 7 years, 6 months ago on 7 August 2017 12:07 (A review of The Assassination of Trotsky)

I like that it is not ambitious, Losey doesn't portray a definite Trotsky or Mercader, they're are impredictable, non conformist, a bit fatalist but unsure of what to do. Schneider is a poor passionate woman.

Diabolically Yours review

Posted : 7 years, 6 months ago on 7 August 2017 12:03 (A review of Diabolically Yours)

Goodbye Duvivier, it's a tongue in cheek misterious non ambitious sexy plot (Senta is sexiest than ever, Delon is cute and mature).

The Story of Dr. Wassell review

Posted : 7 years, 6 months ago on 7 August 2017 12:00 (A review of The Story of Dr. Wassell)

De Mille contributing a bit late to war effort. He identifies with a doctor maybe because he is difficult to identify with an obedient GI Joe. The exotism is kept as a non invasive background.

Something of Value review

Posted : 7 years, 6 months ago on 6 August 2017 11:57 (A review of Something of Value)

Kind of funny how easy is to put hard themes as segregation and terrorism, because they are in far Kenya and terrorist are blacks from mau mau. Poitier is really good crying in most of his scenes. Hudson is a non crying white.
