Boots Malone (1952) review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 26 June 2017 04:20 (A review of Boots Malone (1952))

Minor Dieterle, a horse and a boy instead of great men and women, and a lousy happy end. Al least he has a noble with noirish undertones Holden, and grey detail of the horsetracks world.

The Courtship of Eddie's Father review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 26 June 2017 04:16 (A review of The Courtship of Eddie's Father)

In any other hands, would've be a poor tender comedy centered on a camera burglar child. Minnelli makes the diference, playing with the false insecurity of Stella Stevens, making Ford and Jones fight and love.

The Devil and the Ten Commandments review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 26 June 2017 04:13 (A review of The Devil and the Ten Commandments)

I'm fan of Duvivier. He doesn´'t excel here but he amuses with Delon and Darrieuz playing incestuously, with suicidal criminal Aznavour, with wonderful Presle, what else to ask?

Gimme Danger (2016) review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 12 June 2017 03:15 (A review of Gimme Danger (2016))

Iggy explains himself, thanks to Jarmush, in a simple way, and its clear to me how influenced by pop culture, and not just political ideas (they are form communist Ann Arbor university of Michigan), are the rock punk stars.

Salt and Fire review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 12 June 2017 03:10 (A review of Salt and Fire)

I think Herzog made this just to film in a wonderful part of the earth he hasn't filmed yet (salar de Uyuni), and that's the only reason to see this. Gael is wasted in a insignificant part, and the eco anti corporative thriller is pure stereotype.

The Handmaiden review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 12 June 2017 03:07 (A review of The Handmaiden)

Extreme formalism but has some moemntos and images and parts that trascend it. The sexy pervertion of the characters, leading to the happy somber mutilation, while the lesbian girls are happy, is ok.

Friendly Persuasion review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 12 June 2017 03:05 (A review of Friendly Persuasion)

Wyler knows what to do with any material, even one as antipersuasive as this one. Maybe the material is too washed up (they don'r commit crimes ans are too moderated in the end), buy doesn't lack subtlety and some humour in the Marjorie Main and her tomboy daughters part. Cooper is miscasted against McGuire.

Lucrèce Borgia review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 12 June 2017 03:00 (A review of Lucrèce Borgia)

Christian-Jaque historiacal adventure films must be revisited. Lucrecia's romanticism mut be found, and the film finds it in some parts, behind the despotic intriguing sxy killing court she is part of. Sexual overtones and fantastic parts (la chasse a l'homme of Serato is excellent, the incestuous attraction of Cesare to his sister) are more than ok.

The Unknown Girl review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 12 June 2017 02:56 (A review of The Unknown Girl)

Dardenne's naturalism with a search that speeds up the narration and has a thriller aspect. Secondary characters are well depicted and you don't loose their sense of guilt and frustration.

La academia de las musas review

Posted : 7 years, 8 months ago on 4 June 2017 09:52 (A review of La academia de las musas)

Me cuesta soportar a Guerin cuando da vueltas sobre lo mismo, un académico pretencioso creyendo que tiene todo resuelto sobre temas irresolubles, y mujeres que supuestamente lo inspiran y desesperan.
