God's Little Acre review

Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 31 May 2015 10:33 (A review of God's Little Acre)

I've a got a guilty pleasure complex fot this Mann since I saw fort he first time. Caldwell seem a 'realismo maravillosos' sexy writer in this adpatation. God bless Tina Louise. For comedy sake, the albino Michael Landon itch for Darlin Jill is so funny.

The Judge review

Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 31 May 2015 10:30 (A review of The Judge)

(Seen in a flight). owney is a superselfconscious unberable lawyer, the tunrabouts of the trial are too corny. The 3 stars are just for Duvall.

None Shall Escape review

Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 31 May 2015 10:25 (A review of None Shall Escape)

OK with the early judgment of the nazis in one single biography. More moral than politic. Sharp in its conclusions and even tender in some approaches to the women involved.

Hotel review

Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 10 May 2015 01:43 (A review of Hotel)

Great cast, nice hotel in nice New Orleans, but some corny VIP Arthur Hailey staff. Quine makes it decent. Melvyn Douglas, Merle Oberon, Malden are the best.

Operation Daybreak review

Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 10 May 2015 01:39 (A review of Operation Daybreak)

It has something direct, well paced crescendo, effective plot point in the early and great Heydrich assasination, great subplot of the treason, and good ending.

Mary, Queen of Scots review

Posted : 9 years, 9 months ago on 10 May 2015 01:32 (A review of Mary, Queen of Scots)

Elegant, good characters, Vanessa better than Glenda, because of his 'naif courage', nice landscapes, some academicism.

Little Big Man review

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 3 May 2015 12:13 (A review of Little Big Man)

I like how Penn arrives to a great meaningfil subject -with massacre and all- through this patetic comic pitiful man. Story goes round and round and that's the key.

Billy Wilder Speaks (2006) review

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 3 May 2015 12:10 (A review of Billy Wilder Speaks (2006))

Anything about Wilder´s films told by him is worth listening. Schñondorff is just a fan asking about Marilyn and Audrey and Bogart and so on

Mr. Turner review

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 2 May 2015 09:23 (A review of Mr. Turner)

So full of details as one of those Turner paintings. Timothy Spall is as great as Laughton composing the painter freak; citing himself as a 'gargoyle'. He has a sense of spectacle, lightinf his canvas for private exposition, using language, provoquing the establishment (and Constable) with red paint.

Les Cousins (1959) review

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 2 May 2015 09:20 (A review of Les Cousins (1959))

More character than action. Oppositions (country and city, sophisticated fascist irresponsible snobbish Brialy vs democratic, naif, good natures, responsible Blain) are ambiguos as many things in this film. Great isolated moments,as Brialy with the candelabra, but the film is made for them all.
