Mandy review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 28 March 2015 08:31 (A review of Mandy)

As an anticipated telefilm, too focused in a lcinical case, didactic on the education of deaf children, with some corny twirls, but a nice balance. Goold noble Hawkins, in silent love with proto feminist Phyllis Calvert.

Indiscreet review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 28 March 2015 08:28 (A review of Indiscreet)

I love Gloria, specially singing dubbed in close up with her long hair. Subtle plot on unneccesary sincerity, but not an essay on morality and lies.

10 Rillington Place review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 28 March 2015 08:25 (A review of 10 Rillington Place)

Cold, somehow sloe, realistic, refined dialogue by Attenborough, an ellegant exploration on cruelty and pervertion for a sick man in an oppresive context (you almost share his superiority on his wife, great passive character).

The Notebook review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 22 March 2015 02:33 (A review of The Notebook)

Effective love story combined with selfhelp plot of Garner making alzheimer(amnesia for old ladies in melodrama)patient Rowlands, remember their own love story by telling it as a novel. Too manipulative, corny some moments, aggresive in osme other moments...

The King and Four Queens review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 22 March 2015 02:27 (A review of The King and Four Queens)

Ahead of its time; everybody is crooked here but love makes Clark chose Eleanor. Big momentos of Raoul mise en scene, populating the frame with the five (including mama Jo Van Fleet) girls around Clark.

In Like Flint review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 22 March 2015 02:22 (A review of In Like Flint)

I understand why Austin Powers loves and imitates this. Flint/Cobunr is sexy, free inspired, egotistical, still a macho in a world populated by scheming beautiful girls. Great Jerry Goldsmith score.

The Geisha Boy review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 22 March 2015 02:19 (A review of The Geisha Boy)

Slow pace and too long routines for moments, but it has other great 'reduction to absurd', naif provocative gags (insinuations of a erotic symbolic world for children with geishas). Literal japanese abstraction, with paternal feelings.

Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 13 March 2015 02:22 (A review of Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959))

License to straight fantasy, in contrast to first part in Edimburgh. It lacks of tthe rythm and energy of the classic adventure, but the set design, the FX and acting by Mason, pretty Dahl, are worth the film.

On the Beach review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 13 March 2015 02:15 (A review of On the Beach)

In spite of some terrible 'deep and solemm' close ups confronting the atomic apocalypse, Kramer never loses control. I like everything about Ava, the romantic getaway to the trout season, the scenes in the submarine outside San Francisco.

Run Silent, Run Deep review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 13 March 2015 02:11 (A review of Run Silent, Run Deep)

Gable smashes Lancaster, his scenes alone are the best. He is always, in charรกcter and natural acting, one step before Burt.Dont' like too much the macho idea of glory, but dialogues are ok.
