The Informer review

Posted : 5 years, 11 months ago on 24 March 2019 03:49 (A review of The Informer)

Too heavy on the romance, and the evil innocent woman, but well paced, dramatic close ups and movements of main characters

When a Woman Ascends the Stairs (1960) review

Posted : 5 years, 11 months ago on 13 March 2019 01:25 (A review of When a Woman Ascends the Stairs (1960))

Naruse is somehow between Ozu and any other greta japanese. Love the challenge of putting in every woman's foot, even the sympathy goes for the non wife. The choir of characters that forces her is well handled

When Ladies Meet review

Posted : 5 years, 11 months ago on 10 March 2019 04:25 (A review of When Ladies Meet)

Nice play, nice cast, nice Beaumont directing; tender touches mainly not in the Harding-Loy meeting, but in Brady's celebrating Loy is as fool as she and that's why they're friends.

Intermezzo review

Posted : 5 years, 11 months ago on 10 March 2019 04:21 (A review of Intermezzo)

Good swedish modern love affair romantized with music topics (he is a well known violinist); but pointing to emancipation of Ingrid at the end. Nice passion two shots and dialogues.

Die goldene Stadt review

Posted : 5 years, 11 months ago on 10 March 2019 04:19 (A review of Die goldene Stadt)

Hard and direct director Harlan when he has to. And a bit of rural urban inspired poetry when charming Soderbaum plays with the river on her feet, knowing the water goes to golden Prague.
