A City of Sadness (1989) review

Posted : 8 years, 1 month ago on 15 January 2017 03:53 (A review of A City of Sadness (1989))

Too long and paced, confusing relation of relatives and friends when they seat at the table. But lovably idea of the story -and history- view through a deaf guy nad a nurse.

Darby's Rangers review

Posted : 8 years, 1 month ago on 15 January 2017 03:51 (A review of Darby's Rangers)

Wellman y la guerra como nostalgia del Hollywood macho y noble. Solo Walsh, Ford y Hawks harían esto. La larga exposición de los soldados interactuando en hogares cobra sentido con sus poéticas pero sobrias muertes en la niebla.

The Search (1948) review

Posted : 8 years, 1 month ago on 15 January 2017 03:47 (A review of The Search (1948))

Hollywoodesque, even with 'Roots' documentary fan Zinneman, "Germania anno cero". Even the corny stuff, the ruins are as authentic as Zinneman efforts to dramatize the surroundings with ruins and river. Better than the french remake.

Crisis in Six Scenes review

Posted : 8 years, 1 month ago on 15 January 2017 03:42 (A review of Crisis in Six Scenes)

Well structured, a film in 6 parts, very domestic, with a nice Brooklyn adventure, good pairing with Elaine May. Best line: Patriot friend: "I have a purple heart". Woody: "I have a yellow streak".

To Forget Venice review

Posted : 8 years, 1 month ago on 12 January 2017 12:25 (A review of To Forget Venice)

Aunque afectada en su bergmanismo, más natural, imaginativa y divertida que algunos 'sauras' que pecaban de lo mismo. Le sumo su sexy homofilia, la prima donna decadente, la nana tajante y el viaje a Venezia que nunca se concreta.

The Scarlet Letter (1926) review

Posted : 8 years, 1 month ago on 9 January 2017 01:55 (A review of The Scarlet Letter (1926))

Puritanism against love. Sjostrom doesn't need to portrait Gish as a Boston or Salem witch; she is too pure for that. And too dignified when she stand people's judgment and is punished with the A for adulteress.

The War Wagon review

Posted : 8 years, 1 month ago on 9 January 2017 01:50 (A review of The War Wagon)

Tongue in old Duke's cheek. Kirk is better since a great introduction as Lomax. Bruce Cabot a good bad guy. Tiomkin's score and location an Clothier's photo are too much for Burt Kennedy's unispired direction.

The Night Affair review

Posted : 8 years, 1 month ago on 3 January 2017 01:24 (A review of The Night Affair)

Descubro tarde a Grangier. Audiard le sirve la mesa en diálogos de los que hay bastante buenos para perdonar los obvios y malos. Con Gabin se entiende de maravilla y Tiller esta estupenda confundiendo a todos, empezando por Gabin.
