Knock on Any Door review

Posted : 5 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2019 04:39 (A review of Knock on Any Door)

A minor Ray, could be a 30's or 40's warner movie with court plot sustaining drama, mmmm. Derek is so handsome that it's diffiuclt to underline its devilish character; the Bogart monologue points to his victimization

The Cheat (1915) review

Posted : 5 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2019 04:35 (A review of The Cheat (1915))

Irresistible two faced cynicial morbo De Mille. Hayakawa is pure clisรฉ of the eroticized stranger. Surprising narration for 1915 standards

The Company review

The beauty of ballet, its peaks and downs in a proffesional company and that's all. Cold and distnat as some altman films. Thereยดs a duo on a set ourdoors during a storm, pretty.

Posted : 5 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2019 04:26 (A review of The Men (1954))

Good social material for Zinneman, Brando is a great debutante, but too many narration by edition effect, when one expects the dramatic acting crisis...

His Butler's Sister review

Posted : 5 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2019 04:17 (A review of His Butler's Sister)

Borzage is always great (even here he has two wonderful travellings, one quiet following Durbin and Tone in a street, the other with Durbin running to Tone in the end), but the conventional priod girl lookinf fot her opportunity in NY is so poor...

Rings on Her Fingers review

Posted : 5 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2019 04:15 (A review of Rings on Her Fingers)

Mamoulian (and Fonda, Cregar, even limited Tierney) amuse in this crazy romantic comedy not so idiot plot comedy. Fonda and Gene dance and runs naively, through the plot.

Kings Row (1942) review

Posted : 5 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2019 04:12 (A review of Kings Row (1942))

The basis for a soap opera saga, Peyton Place, is not too medidated by Wood or producers; some weakness now and then; dialogues ok and homogeneous good cast (Cummings deserved better filmography, reagan at his best, friendship and insanity dominates over conventional romantic love, Field better than Sheridan, even Coleman is ok)...

The Big City review

Posted : 5 years, 8 months ago on 22 September 2019 10:52 (A review of The Big City)

Poetic of development, in Calcutta or in Latin America, so similar. A woman has to work and there's a cold war at home...

Posted : 5 years, 8 months ago on 22 September 2019 10:14 (A review of Bluebeard (1944))

Some tamed expressionism, some idiot plot of men leaving an intrepid woman in the bare hands of Blue Beard/ Carradine...
