The Las Vegas Story review

Posted : 8 years, 5 months ago on 25 September 2016 01:41 (A review of The Las Vegas Story)

More romantic than noir. The idea that Price gambles his wife, a necklace and the money he hasn't, is not underlined as it deserves. Russell is better than Mature.

On Trial review

Posted : 8 years, 5 months ago on 25 September 2016 01:37 (A review of On Trial)

Switzerland is a good background to a sordid -even a bit washed- story. The paralell of Vanel's son and Vanel himself revisiting the case is ok. Grandma Berthe Bovy has the best lines.

The Emperor Waltz review

Posted : 8 years, 5 months ago on 25 September 2016 01:26 (A review of The Emperor Waltz)

Excellent. Not a minor Wilder. He makes a statement on monarchy and class division against singing american brute pragmatism, using wisely the clises. Fontaine is better than ever. More than austruhungarian monarchy, the satire goes to freudian psycoanalisis applied to dogs!

The Wicked City review

Posted : 8 years, 5 months ago on 25 September 2016 01:20 (A review of The Wicked City)

Ravishing Maria Montez. Illiminates (or gets noirish) everything. And has the dialogues for it, even inventing her birthplace once and again. Lilly Palmer miscast.

Good paced, choral, in love with Sicily, tolerant in name of chuch incarnated by Chevalier. Dickinson is sex in revenge but funny, never tragiv even Lisistrata is evoked.

Good cheap natural in its exotism noir from John Farrow. Ladd has good dialogues against beautiful untrustful Gail Russell.

To Paris with Love review

Posted : 8 years, 5 months ago on 18 September 2016 02:41 (A review of To Paris with Love)

Too light, too easy comedy pushing Paris clisรฉs to a idiotic extreme that converts the city in a small resort where everybody meets anytime by hazard.

Woman of Straw review

Posted : 8 years, 5 months ago on 18 September 2016 02:37 (A review of Woman of Straw)

Has its moments, especially with Richardson's hidden death, but resumes badly in the end. Knox is a lousy detective and Gina a stupid italian nurse till the happy end

Much Loved review

Posted : 8 years, 5 months ago on 18 September 2016 02:33 (A review of Much Loved)

Marrakech as never seen before, in and behind turism. Whores arent idealized, just depicted, followed in their routine. Not victims, not bitches. Even when they try saudi clients.

Mourir d'aimer... review

Posted : 8 years, 5 months ago on 13 September 2016 09:53 (A review of Mourir d'aimer...)

Too manipulating, but very well paced. Girardot is excellent in close ups, with just one tear. Pradal is too old and too miscast.
